John Lennon’s Death Facts 41 Years

The death of one of The Beatles’ personnel, John Lennon, became the saddest news in the 1980s. To this day, his fans around the world still remember him.
The legendary musician was shot and killed by his fan named Mark David Chapman in New York City 41 years ago. Lennon, died at the age of 40.

His death occurred on December 8, 1980 in New York, USA. At the time, Lennon did a photo shoot for Rolling Stone magazine and gave an interview to San Francisco DJ Dave Sholin, for a musical performance on RKO’s Radio Network.

Reporting Yahoo, when Lennon and Yoko Ono went to attend a recording session for the song, Mark David Chapman tried to ask for John Lennon’s autograph on his ‘Double Fantasy’ album.

Seeing his enthusiasm, Lennon asked the car that had picked him up to wait while he signed Chapman’s autograph.

Who would have thought, after finishing taking care of Ono’s recording, Lennon and his wife returned to their apartment in the Dakota building at around 22:50 local time.

Suddenly Chapman appeared, and he unhesitatingly fired five bullets at Lennon at point-blank range that hit Lennon in the back.

Chapman is a 25-year-old former security guard from Honolulu, Hawaii, and has no previous criminal record.

After that, Lennon was rushed to Roosevelt Hospital. Unfortunately, Lennon’s life was not saved and he died on the way and on arrival at the hospital.

The moment was captured by Paul Goresh, an amateur photographer and John Lennon fan.

Chapman voluntarily remained on the scene while reading J.D.’s The Catcher in the Rye. Salinger until he was arrested by the police.

He had been planning the assassination for several months and claimed that he was inspired by the character Holden Caulfield from the novel Salinger.

Psychiatrists deemed Chapman to be borderline psychotic and he was ordered to confess to being insane. However, he pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to 20 years to life.

He remains behind bars, despite numerous attempts to seek parole.

Not long ago, there was a memorial to John Lennon’s death at Strawberry Farm, part of Central Park across the street from the Dakota Building that Ono built in memory of her late husband.
